1. While traditional Western narratives around the Internet in Asia typically emphasize
censorship and governmental control, how might these limitations be ameliorated by the
way people actually use the Internet in the region? What strategies and tactics exist
alongside techniques of control?
2. Choose a well-known celebrity or star from the Asia-Pacific region. Analyze the social
function and social meaning of this celebrity. Is the Asian star system different from the

3. Select a particular aspect of Asian gaming culture(s) OR Asian mobile phone culture(s).
Does your example suggest that the Asia-Pacific is increasingly taking a lead role in this
area? What does your particular case study reveal about the society of which it is a part?
You should demonstrate your engagement with this course by working with the central concepts and ideas from the lectures, readings and tutorials in order to critically analyse the relevant trends in Asia-Pacific media raised by the questions. It will consist of three (3) questions and you must answer two (2) of these options. Your response should be about 500 words per question.
1.Explain the call to de-Westernise
academic knowledge production of media.
Illustrate with an example (or examples)
from Asia to explain why such a call is
necessary.
2. What are the limits to explaining the
Korean Wave based on the concept of
cultural proximity? What concept(s) should
enhance or replace it?
3. What are the pros and cons of
implementing a British-style 'Creative

this an appropriate way to nurture and
sustain creativity there?

- Introduction is good.
- Proposed Supply side policy is really good but need to relate to manufacturing industry more directly
- Need to change proposed monetary and fiscal policy evaluation entirely. It needs to relate to manufacturing industry and economic growth more. That's the question.
