theology

1) For each of the four readings (Ignatius, Perpetua, Tertullian, Macrina), identify the key risk or cost addressed by each respective reading. How are they similar? How are they different? Which of these readings do you find applicable to your life? Why? (If you think none are applicable, state why.) How does this reading exercise shape your thoughts on finding your purpose or calling?

2) Today Christianity is not an outlawed religion, and for the most part Christians in the west do not face persecution, as did those in the first Christian centuries. Still, many Christians find parallels between the first Christian centuries and today. What, if any, parallels do you see between the difficulties described by Tertullian and those faced by Christians today (see pp. 2425 for the editors view)? What message might Tertullian have for those who hear Gods call today?

3) The most challenging reading in this module is from Augustines Confessions. In the third thread, give your ans

Honor & Shame in Genesis 34

The goal of this discussion is to analyze aspects of honor and shame in Old Testament culture through the lens of a biblical narrative.

Make sure you have reviewed the Honor and Shame lecture before completing this assignment. Then read Genesis 34, paying special attention to various aspects of honor and shame as related to the actions and intentions of the characters in the narrative.

Most commentators note that the connected context of this narrative is about Jacob (and his family). Jacob vowed to return home when he left his home in Canaan (Genesis 28:20-21). After 20 years with Uncle Laban, God told Jacob to return home (Genesis 31:13), but Jacob settled in Shechem instead of going back to his fathers house. So the greater context is about Jacob, but for this assignment you should concentrate upon the situation as presented in this chapter.

How would you explain the motivations of the sons of Jacob in this narrative and what would be the application for Chris

Book Review : Plantation Jesus Race, Faith, and a New Way Forward

Each student will write a 1,200-1,400 word review of the book, which will thoroughly answer all of the following questions:

What is the authors primary argument?
What evidence does the author give to support this argument?
What is the most persuasive part of the authors argument?
What is the least persuasive part of the authors argument?
How has this book affected your own understanding of the issue at hand? Do you agree or disagree with the authors position?
How does the authors argument impact how one lives out the Christian faith?

Burial Customs

The goal of this assignment is to identify funeral customs from Old Testament times and draw out the meaning of the biblical text in light of their symbolic use.

For the first part of this assignment, compose a list of at least 8 specific funeral or burial customs(actions) mentioned in the Old Testament by reading the passages listed below. While not every custom was performed at each funeral, such customs from ancient Israel are often used by the prophets symbolically for Israels funeral or apostasy from the Lord.

1 Samuel 4:12
1 Samuel 25:1
2 Samuel 1:11-12
2 Samuel 3:31
2 Samuel 4:12
2 Samuel 15:30
Jeremiah 41:5
For the second part of this assignment, read Jeremiah 6:22-30. Explain in several paragraphs how Jeremiah (one of Gods watchmen, verse 17) uses various biblical customs (especially but not limited to funeral customs, 6:26) to relate Gods message to his own people.

Instructions: Papers should be 1-2 pages in length and written accordi

Aging in Old Testament Times

Read Spender, "Gerontology and the Old Testament Notes,"Preview the document that outlines some of the biblical passages and issues relating to the aged or the study of the elderly (gerontology) in the Old Testament.

Look up some of the key passages to gain an understanding of both the context of the point and how it was viewed by society in ancient Israel. Choose any 1 significant passage from the Old Testament that speaks about issues related to aging or the aged in ancient Israel.

Then develop a PowerPoint presentation for a youth group (teens and young adults) Bible study that teaches the Old Testament situation of the chosen passage and draws a clear application from it for Christian young people today.

Please give the presentation a cover page and make it look interesting, thank you for all your hard work it is much appreciated!

Religion of Islam

Islam and Muslims are often discussed using overly broad generalizations. Choose one thing that you learned this week that you either didnt know before or that challenges a previously held view. Romans

1.Read Romans 3:21-4:25 and explain the Apostle Paul's argument. What is his thesis (3:21)? How does he build his case? What is his conclusion? Compare Paul's conclusion here with James 2:14-26. How do you explain the tension between Paul and James? Offer a resolution.

2.Given the existence of an Old and a New Testament raises the question: What is the Christian's relationship to the Old Testament? More particularly, what is the Christian's obligation to the Old Testament Law (laws)? Please begin this discussion by considering what Jesus himself said about the Old Testament. Consider some of Jesus' most pertinent statements regarding the Law and the Prophets. How did Jesus view his own relationship to the Old Testament? Did Jesus teach that the Old Testament Law was binding for his followers? Offer a solution to this perplexing issue.

Life and Faith in My Study of the New Testament

Identify 3 passages of Scripture from three different blocks of our study of the New Testament that are related to either Life or Faith. For example, you could choose Luke 4:18-21, Romans 3:21-26, and John 4:7-12 (three different blocks: Luke-Acts, Pauls letters, and Johns Writings) to help explain how you understand the theme of Life. You are free to choose either Life or Faith as your focus, and you may find it helpful to review your discussion posts and interpretation papers for relevant passages. Consider how each passage casts light on your chosen theme.
Identify a biblical passage and a particular assignment that impacted you during this course. You may go back to Discussion 1.1 and review the goals that you had for this course. Reflect on the changes that you have experienced in this course and how that specific passage and assignment participated in that change.
Compose an initial post of 250-300 words that do the following:
