    Proper spelling and grammar
Correct MLA citations (look at the Module Two Readings for help citing your sources)
Academic tone avoid: 2nd person/the written you; slang, clichs/overused phrases; vague word choices (a lot, stuff, things); contractions (did not, instead of didnt); and absolutes (always, every, never, since the beginning of time)
Assignment: Annotations are critical or explanatory notes about a text. In an annotated bibliography, they provide brief indications of a sources contents, argument, relevance, strengths, or weaknesses. Annotations often summarize and evaluate secondary sources. Scholars use annotations to supplement a bibliography (a list of sources), to make distinctions between their sources, to organize their research, and to remind themselves what specific sources contain.
We will do the same by using the sources you plan to use for your research essay. Remember that the topic throughout the entire course is the same topic you selected for your Topic Proposal Essay. You may use sources you found in your Research Hunt Assignment, if you found sound sources that you believe will work for your research, if  not, then you may want to keep researching and find other sources you believe will work.
Note: your sources should not be the first sources that you find. An annotated bibliography should be a directed project that reflects your specific approach to your subject. To be most effective, this bib will include sources that will support the argument you are going to make in the Research Essay, about your chosen topic (the one you wrote about in the Topic Proposal).
You will first list the citation in proper MLA formatting, then you will include an annotation (formal notes about the source) of 175 words for each source, equaling 1050 words total.
To better understand the formatting requirements, as this assignment is not set up like a standard essay, please refer to the short sample located on the next page.

Suggestions/Hints:
Consider the Annotated Bibliography as a draft of your sources for research for the actual Research essay you may re-use this information/writing when you do the essay, so treat this seriously.
Use specific information/detail be specific in your explanation of what youre wanting to do with the source in the essay. It will help you when you start writing the essay and it will help you narrow down your research materials. Generalities almost always weaken any writing. The more specific you can get while still addressing the requirements of the assignment, the better.
Look at the template and how it is worded and think about how you might apply some of those verbal tactics to your own annotated bib.

If you have not already, do some preliminary research even if its just a quick Google search to see what the current conversations are surrounding your topic so you can address your research from a place of knowledge.

  Suggested outline/Sample Annotated Bibliography
(Your annotations should all deal with the same topic, but this serves as a useful example and shows of different types of sources should be written about)

Barrett, Charles Kingsley. The Gospel According to St. John: An Introduction with Commentary and Notes in the Greek Text. 2nd ed. Westminister John Knox Press, 1978.
This commentary contains detailed exegesis of the Greek text that is worth considering regardless of whether one agrees with all of Barretts conclusions. The author provides a lengthy introduction (146 pages), including discussions on the historical, theological, and linguistic aspects of this book. These categories will aid in the research being conducted by providing a logical breakdown of subcategories. Barrett himself is one of the greatest English language commentary writers of the twentieth century. However, he follows some older views on Johns Gospel regarding source and background that would be difficult to find anywhere else, thus providing useful information to the research.
Brown, Ottilioa, and Juliet Robinson. Resilience in Remarried Families. South African Journal of Psychology, vol. 42, no. 1, 2012. Pp 114-126.
This article reports on a salient research study in which the target was to identify and explore the resiliency factors that enable blended families to adjust and adapt. It involved a total of 35 participants: 19 parents and 16 adults. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the biographical information. This information will help hone down the research by looking at specific numbers of people affected by remarriage. This source also uses correlation analysis to analyze the quantitative data: and content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data. The research found that family hardiness, problem solving, communication, family time, and routines showed a positive correlation for both parties. Common themes between the teen and parents such as spirituality, boundaries, communication, flexibility and tolerance also had a strong positive correlation between both. This will help in proving the research essays main point that these aspects are interconnected. The journal is a peer-reviewed journal. Ottilia Brown is also the author of other academic journal articles on learning disabilities and ADD. The author appears well-versed and knowledgeable on the topic at hand.
Lamott, Anne. Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, Anchor Books, 1995.
Taking a humorous approach to being a writer, this book is wry and anecdotal and offer advice on the writing life from plot development to jealousy, from perfectionism to struggling with ones own internal critic. In the process, LaMotte includes fun and productive writing exercise. She offers sane advice that will be useful in showing how those that struggle with writing anxieties are able to cope. However, her main goal seems to be offering readers a reality check regarding writing, publishing and struggling with ones imperfections in the process. Its not a dry handbook of writing and/or publishing, but it is indispensable because of its honest perspective, down-to-earth humor, and encouraging approach. Parts of it could easily be included in the curriculum for a writing class. Several chapters in Part 1 address the writing process and would serve to generate discussion on students own drafting and revising processes. Her research is invaluable when looking at how writing can be both engaging and enjoyable.
