A social movement summary 350-400 words
Where is this movement emerging and at what? Is it growing, stable, happening in waves, or waning in size? Why has it occurred? What has happened that prevents most people from living their normal lives? Are there service agencies attempting to address this problem? Why have them been ineffective?
An analysis of the movements and tactics 250-300 words
Do you see this movement as fundamental reform (advocating for incremental changes in the current system), revolutionary (seeking to restructure social or economic foundations), or conservative (working to preserve existing social order against change, or returning to an earlier social structure)? What tactics* does it employ? How do those tactics align with the movements type?
*Tactics of protest can include a range of methods of both active and passive non-compliance, and for our purposes will need to invol
PROMPT: This week we hear from multiple Americans--Smith, Powhatan, "King Philip", and Winthrop. How do each of their voices contribute to the idea of "multiple truths" and how does the fact that the Native Americans rely on other recorders to share their truths impact the reader and the purported speaker?
Hint: Pay close attention to who speaks for King Philip.
Be sure to review the Discussion Guidelines and Rubric located in the Week 1 Module, and to include page references for your ideas, so others may better understand your points.

Everyone, it seems, has a favorite place to eat. For some, it is a fast-food restaurant like McDonald's, Burger King or Taco Bell. Or it may be a diner like Denny's or an ethnic restaurant like El Torito, Panda Inn, or Olive Garden. It may be a restaurant that serves large portions, like Hometown Buffet or Claim-Jumpers, or that serves specialized food like Red Lobster or Ruth's Chris Steak House. It may be a fancy restaurant like l'Orange or a small, independently-owned caf. It may be a place such as Benihana's known for its atmosphere, or it may be eating at home or a friend or relative's house. We like these places for many reasons including the type of food served, the decorations and setting, the atmosphere, the music or entertainment available, or even the price of the food.
Please discuss your favorite place to eat. Be sure to describe the location and explain why you enjoy eating there. Use examples and details to support your reasons
Discussion 3.1
First, read the instructions for the Argument essay that concludes this unit. This assignment and the others in this unit will all lead up to that essay.
As described in those instructions, you will need to choose a topic from the New York Times "Room for Debate" pages. Once you have chosen a topic you will notice that there are several "debaters," each of whom have written an article in response to the topic. In your initial discussion board post, summarize all of the different articles/viewpoints from the room for debate page. This is an important exercise in preparing any argument because you need to be familiar with different opinions surrounding issue. After your short summaries, write a paragraph explaining where you stand on the issue. Finish your post by creating a working thesis statement. Your thesis statement should clearly present an opinion and it should make a
Writer's notebook 3.1
You have just read "Skeptics May Object," about including opposing viewpoints in your argument. Now let's practice doing so.
You should already have chosen your topic and written a working thesis for the upcoming argument essay. Now, construct a short argument (300 words) that takes the opposite position of your working thesis. For example, if your working thesis is about banning guns on campus, then in this assignment you should argue the opposite, that guns should be allowed. So, whatever your thesis is, construct an opposing argument.
The purpose here is to make sure that you understand the opposing viewpoints related to your topic. Only by understanding and anticipating what skeptics might be thinking can you effectively establish common ground and counter opposing viewpoints.
