Churchill's Iron Curtain Speech, March 1946

This is an undergraduate level course. My TA is an extremely hard grader, so it needs to be perfect!

Using the document “Churchill’s Iron Curtain Speech, March 1946” in the Judge and Langdon book titled, “The Cold War: A History through Documents,” interpret and analyze the possible themes you might explore.

My thesis will be about how Churchill’s speech signified the start of the Cold War. Churchill recognized that the Soviet Union was creating an Eastern bloc, where they would be the dominant power in all spheres of influence. In framing a Western response to Soviet domination, he recognized that the USSR was no longer acting in cooperation with the West for the benefit of Europe, but was dividing the continent into communism versus capitalism.

As a result of this speech, Western powers recognized the threat of Soviet influence, and began taking steps for a prolonged campaign to defeat communism all throughout the world.

Limit using sources outside the Judge and Langdon book listed above (with the selected pages provided in the attachments), and “The Twentieth-Century World and Beyond: An International History since 1900” by William R. Keylor. The paper should be between 5-7 pages, doubled-spaced and size 12-point font, Times New Roman.
