You are a consulting group hired by Columbia Sportswear and challenged to provide solutions to the questions at the end of the case. In order to do a thorough job, please proceed as follows.

You only need to do the proceed (1) and (2).

(1) Evaluate Columbia Sportswear’s financial performance over the last 2 years.

(2) Evaluate Columbia Sportwear’s internal and external position at the time of the case. You must use a TOWS (or augmented SWOT) matrix as part of your analysis, and also to generate potential strategies.

Do’s and Don’ts of case Write-Ups

Do:
1) Think carefully about the structure and presentation of your wirite-up from a third party’s perspective. Make sure that there is some logical flow to the ideas, and that any exhibits or appendices are legible and simple.

2) Pay attention to aesthetics. Sloppiness in grammar, spelling (particularly company and executives’ names) and presentation of your ideas will only aggravate the marker (me) and detract from the quality of your ideas.
3) Use tables, graphs or other exhibits to distill your ideas. This is particularly important for the executive summaries, where space is very limited.

4) Examine alternative solutions as space permits, but be sure that the reader has no doubts about which solutions is your final recommendation.

DO NOT:

1) Regurgitate the facts of the case. Assume that the reader knows that name and history of the company and move on from there. Your job is primarily to analyze the facts, not to re-type them.

2) Answer the questions one by one. Your report should be in paragraph form with a beginning middle and end. The questions are meant only as guidelines.

3)Over-use point form. Allow me to enjoy the fruits of your excellent and expensive education. Communication does not have to be via non-sentences in endless lists.
