Public Writing Course
Subject: English
the book: Robert Lyons, Autobiography: A Reader for Writers, Second Edition. New York: Oxford UP, 1984. pages 34-61
Module 2 Diaries and Journals
1. Read page 35-61 This selection includes articles by Hansberry, Holt, Thoreau and Orwell.
2. Write out one discussion question for each selection. Post this question on the course blackboard site under the thread “Diaries and Journals”. Answer one question from the blackboard site discussion board.
3. Listen to the voice thread lecture on Hansberry and Orwell. Post a voice thread response.
4. Write a journal entry consisting of at least three (it may be more) sequential days of your week. In these journal entries, focus on the way in which you feel yourself in the world. What are the thoughts and feelings that happenings/ observations in your daily life create? What were some moments of "Being" that you may have experienced? Remember that you’re writing for a public audience, so you don’t want to reveal anything that you would feel uncomfortable having others read.
5. Write a second journal entry that covers only one hour. Focus on what makes the one hour that you choose unique to your life or to your understanding of yourself. Your goal is to communicate this uniqueness to your reader.
