Teacher Leadership: Developing Leadership
first complete a self-assessment of your skills and competencies and reflect on your strengths and weaknesses as a potential teacher leader. You will then seek out three colleagues within your school and hold conversations with them about their current roles, responsibilities, and aspirations, as well as leadership opportunities they feel they could assume in your school. These colleagues can be teachers in your grade level, subject area, or your area of work within your school, but they should be diverse enough to bring different perspectives to collaborative work and conversations. You will use these interviews as you develop a shared leadership opportunity for yourself and these teachers in your Application assignment.
For your Application assignment, which you will work on during Weeks 2-4, you will collaborate with these teachers to develop a group leadership initiative. Together, you will set the purpose for your work, determine and gather the data you will need to guide your work, apply principles of the shared leadership frameworks discussed in your lectures and readings, and, finally, develop a set of tasks for your group to complete as part of your teacher leadership initiative. You will also develop a set of guidelines for how to assess the effectiveness of your group initiative.
