The Scheme:
A power company is considering installing a small (50 MW) tidal barrage at the entrance to Langstone Harbour to expand the renewable energy option in and around Portsmouth.
The location details of the barrage are included in the ‘Map of Langstone Harbour Barrage’ sheet in Moodle (I upload them). Also included there is a resource sheet about biodiversity the area and some general information on tidal barrages.

2. Introduction (~100 words) – briefly outline the project and state why an environmental impact assessment is required.

3. Site description (~150 words). Questions to consider:

• What is the land use on and around the area?
• What is the current environmental status?
• Are there any nature reserves?

4. Identify and discuss 2 environmental impacts (~550 words) of the proposed development.
Assess the likely impact of each, taking into consideration the magnitude and sensitivity.
Make sure you draw on (and cite accordingly) information from the literature to support your statements.

5. Monitoring programme (~200 words): Briefly describe a monitoring programme you would implement to assess the accuracy of the impact predictions.
