Two scientific papers will be provided in the area of microbial adaptation and students will select two further papers using a relevant scientific literature databases (eg web of knowledge or scopus NOT pubmed or google scholar) acceptable recent year ranges have been provided (2012 onwards). Students will synthesise these papers to write a short critical essay under a subject heading related to VBNC. References must be cited correctly and listed using the specified Harvard system.

Two reviews are attached, you should write a synopsis of their implications to adaptation of sporulation and VBNC. This synopsis should be no more than 800 words (excluding references). You should include a reference to two recent original papers found by yourself, related to this subject (not reviews). The synopsis should link together culturability and spore formation and consider their relationship with adaptation.

This assignment is designed to build upon the abstracting skills developed in the first assignment, including use of original literature and to develop skills in the use of electronic scientific databases such as Web of Knowledge.
